  • Preditors and Editors is under revisions [Aug 2017] and recommends a few other sites in the interim that warn of publishing scams.

  • Writers Beware is the public face of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America's Committee on Writing Scams. Like many genre-focused professional writers' groups, SFWA is concerned not just with issues that affect professional authors, but with the problems and pitfalls that face aspiring writers. Although SFWA is a USA-based organization of science fiction and fantasy writers, the Committee's efforts aren't limited by country or genre. We've designed the Writer Beware website so it can be used by any writer, regardless of subject, style, genre, or nationality.

  • Snopes Urban Legends Check out those email warnings BEFORE you waste time, paper and/or electrons about the latest scare or 'news' over the email. A couple of quick search words will usually get you the information that you're looking for.

  • Lingo2word: Translating Text Messages helps you translate from or to standard English.

  • The Word On The Street The Word On The Street is a national celebration of literacy and the written word. Each September, in communities coast to coast, the public is invited to participate in hundreds of author events, presentations, workshops, and to browse a marketplace that boasts the best selection of Canadian books and magazines youll find anywhere.

  • Freedom to Read Week is an annual campaign in support of intellectual freedom in Canada will be marked by readings, debates, displays of banned and challenged books and public forums. 2012: Feb 26 to March 3

  • Canadian Government (CCRA-Canada Customs and Revenue Agency) Income Tax Information for Artists and Writers Updated: If you type "Writers" into the search box, the new CCRA site will list all the documentation that may be applicable, and then you can decide what you want to print or download.

  • Worldwide Freelance Writer This site successfully links up freelance writers with editors and publications who need their work, with a strong focus for international work.

  • Electronic Frontier Canada -An organization which was founded to ensure that the principles in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms are protected as new computing, communications, and information technologies emerge. Contact them- site not updated since 2004, but it is still there.

  • Banned Books Online This special exhibit of books that have been the objects of censorship or censorship attempts. The books featured here, ranging from Ulysses to Little Red Riding Hood, have been selected from the indexes of The Online Books Page. (See that page for over 20,000 more online books!)

  • Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) , Canada's civil liberties watchdog. On this site, you will find information about CCLA's efforts to protect Canadians' rights and freedoms, as well as information on how to join and get involved. We are a non-profit, non-government law-reform organization dealing with issues of fundamental civil liberties and human rights that affect those who live all across Canada.

  • Books For Pleasure.com is a quality Canadian e-book publisher I have no hesitation in recommending. Tell Judy you saw her here.

  • Writer At Work comics on the Writing Life- because the work can seem all-too-serious at times.

  • The Word Guild is an organization for Canadian writers and editors who are Christian.

  • Daily Haiku .org is an elegant site with a different haiku each day. Enjoy.

  • Editorial Freelancers AssociationThe Editorial Freelancers Association is a national, nonprofit, professional organization of self-employed workers in the publishing and communications industries. [based in the United States]. Members are editors, writers, indexers, proofreaders, researchers, desktop publishers, translators, and others who offer a broad range of skills and specialties.

  • Canadian Poetry An electronic resource concerning early Canadian writing, includes academic papers and poems.

  • Canadian eAuthorsCanadian eAuthors created this site to feature, showcase, and promote Canadian writers who have been published electronically. The CeA site was also created as a medium for demystifying electronic books (ebooks) and electronic readers (ereaders), but has not been updated in quite some time.

  • InScribe, the Christian Writers' Fellowship site offers a lot of sound writing advice, profiles markets, and contains good marketing strategies.

  • Canadian Federation of Poets based in Burlington, Ontario and Burbank, CA,USA. Poetry magazine as print, e-book or PDF.

  • Canadian Resources for Writers website by Word Wrights Canada (Susan Ioannou) includes Contest Basics, Contests Especially for Students, Writing Advice, Books and Free Downloads for Writers and Teachers and more.

  • United Nations World Book and Copyright Day- April 23rd By celebrating this Day throughout the world, UNESCO seeks to promote reading, publishing and the protection of intellectual property through copyright.

  • Canadian Authors Association National Web Page. The Canadian Authors Association is Canada's national writing association. If you are looking for the type of support only a large national association can give you combined with the friendliness of local branches then the CAA is for you. "Writers Helping Writers" is more than a motto -- it expresses our commitment to beginning and established writers alike. Pages of interest: Writer's Links, Writers Contest Listings, Avoiding Scams and Suspect Contests, and many other helpful pages.

  • The Canadian Writers' Foundation is a registered charity with only one aim-to help Canada's writers when they fall on hard times. It's not a job that anyone wants to think about, and it's not very glamorous, but Pierre Berton-who served on the Foundation's board for more than twenty years-considered it 'essential to the literary well-being of Canada.' Founded in 1931.

  • Editors Association of Canada The Editors' Association of Canada promotes professional editing as key in producing effective communications. Its 1,000-plus members, salaried and freelance, work with individuals and in the corporate, technical, government, non-profit, and publishing sectors. Also support French editing.

  • The League of Canadian Poets National Web Page. Promoting Canadian Poetry, and poets. Offers membership lists and bookstore online.

  • PEN Canada PEN Canada works on behalf of writers, at home and abroad, who have been forced into silence for writing the truth as they see it. They have 30 honourary members in 17 countries around the world on whose behalf we work so that their voices can be heard once again.

  • The Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC) (formerly The Periodical Writers Association of Canada) National Web Page. Representing freelance writers in Canada. Offers professional writers listing and contract advice. www.writers.ca a service of The Periodical Writers Association of Canada (PWAC) Now you can find a professional writer in Canada with just a few clicks of your mouse! You can search by name, city, province, subject matter, type of writing, or publication credits.

  • Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators entrance to both Eastern and Western Canada as they have defined it.

  • Canadian Association of Journalists based in Brantford, ON with a national focus on promoting excellence in journalism and advocacy for the both journalists and the public's right to know.

  • Public Lending Rights - Canada National Web Page. Includes the criteria for qualification, and the registration page can be downloaded.

  • Writer's Union of Canada National Web Page. The Writers' Union of Canada is a national organization of professional writers of books for the general public. The Union works to advance conditions for all writers, to unite writers for the advancement of their common interest, and to foster writing in Canada.

  • Canada Council Grant InformationThe Canada Council for the Arts offers a range of grants for professional Canadian writers, collectives and publishers. In addition to providing support for the creation, translation, publication and promotion of Canadian literature, the Writing and Publishing Section funds author residencies, literary readings and festivals, as well as new areas of activity such as rap poetry, storytelling and electronic literature.

  • Canadian Magazine Publishers Association The CMPA represents a diverse and vital group of more than 300 Canadian consumer magazines titles both large and small devoted to covering a wide range of subjects of interest to the Canadian reading public.

  • Literary Translators' Association of CanadaSince 1975, the Literary Translators' Association of Canada (LTAC/ATTLC) has sought to promote literary translation and to protect the interests of its members throughout the country

  • The Association of Italian Canadian Writers brings together a community of writers, critics, academics, and other artists who promote Italian Canadian literature and culture. Founded in 1986 at the first-ever conference on Italian Canadian literature, the AICW's mission is to support and encourage the expression and dissemination of the Italian Canadian experience and to implement an educative process for the valorization and understanding of heritage within an ethnoculturally diversified society.
